Dr Klaas Hartmann

Associate Professor

Klaas conducts fisheries modelling, assessment and management research across a range of species with a particular focus on Southern Rock Lobster. In this role Klaas has developed bio-economic models, conducted stock assessments and developed/evaluated novel management strategies in collaboration with fisheries managers and industry. A key focus has been ensuring that research projects are designed in conjunction with stakeholders and supporting subsequent adoption of results in management decisions through communication and outreach. This work has helped support large changes in fisheries which have substantially increased their profitability whilst improving sustainability and environmental outcomes.
