Recreational fishers in Eastern Australia have reported sightings of some unusual species to Redmap – Range Extension Database and Mapping project (https://www.redmap.org.au). Among other species, we highlight sightings of Red Morwong (Morwong fuscus), Snapper (Chrysophrys auratus), Eastern Rock Lobster (Sagmariasus verreauxi), King George Whiting (Sillaginodes punctata) and Yellowtail Kingfish (Seriola lalandi).

Ever spotted an unusual fish while diving, snorkelling, fishing or even on the beach? You’re not alone—and your sighting could be part of a much bigger story. Thousands of everyday ocean lovers across Australia have been logging these moments on platforms like RedmapReef Life Survey, and iNaturalist, helping scientists track marine species on the move.
