The Spring 2025 edition of Western Angler highlights the work of Sea Change Australia, a Fisheries Research and Development Corporation (FRDC)-funded initiative addressing the impacts of climate change on Australia’s fisheries and aquaculture.

Dr Gary Jackson outlines how Sea Change Australia, with support from the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) is collaborating with commercial and recreational fishers, aquaculture producers, and researchers to identify climate challenges, share knowledge, and develop practical adaptation solutions.

The first WA case studies are now underway, focusing on blue swimmer crabs and nearshore/estuarine scalefish fisheries in the South-West and South Coast. Workshops in Albany and Fremantle have already brought stakeholders together to discuss how fisheries are adapting to changing ocean conditions, with valuable input helping shape a more sustainable future for WA’s oceans and fishing communities.
