I’m a marine researcher at UWA working nationally across marine biodiversity and socio-economic research. Through the NESP Marine and Coastal Hub, I collaborate with government bodies including DCCEEW and Parks Australia to bridge academic research with real-world marine management.
I’ve developed marine sampling standards endorsed by the Global Ocean Observing System and created globalarchive.org – a data portal advancing our understanding of marine ecosystems through coordinated underwater imagery surveys of fish and shark assemblages, supported by thefishcollective.github.io.
My work focuses strongly on collaborative partnerships with Traditional Owners across Western Australia, recognized through the 2024 Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Collaborative Indigenous Research Partnerships. I also work closely with commercial fishers to understand settlement and recruitment patterns in the Western Rock Lobster fishery – Australia’s most valuable fishery.
I’m passionate about building partnerships that bring together Traditional knowledge, commercial expertise, and scientific research to better manage our marine environments. When I’m not thinking about underwater video footage or boat ramp surveys, you’ll find me exploring WA’s incredible coastline with my family.
