Dr Gary Jackson is a fisheries scientist with 35 year’s research experience working on a broad range of projects in freshwater, estuarine and marine environments focused on the biology and dynamics of exploited fish stocks, stock assessment and fishery management. He currently holds a position as Principal Research Scientist with the Western Australian Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development based at the Western Australian Fisheries and Marine Research Laboratories in Perth where he leads the Strategic & Statewide group. He sits on the Shark Bay World Heritage Scientific Advisory Committee and has been a member of the Redmap Steering Committee since 2012. Current areas of research interest include: effects of long-term fishing and climate change on demersal fish stocks, assessment and management of recreational fishing and shark depredation. He is a past president and life member of the Australian Society for Fish Biology and a member of the American Fisheries Society and a very keen saltwater flyfisher.
