She recently stepped away from her previous role as the lead scallop stock assessment scientist with the DPIRD trawl section to establish an ocean Climate Change team. Arani has an extensive research background in understanding climate change impacts, risks and stock-recruitment-environment relationships with a strong interest around marine heatwaves. She leads the WA Ocean Climate report series that provides a synthesis of seasonal ocean conditions and ocean extremes using a combination of satellite, real-time buoy, coastal modelling and forecast data. More recently she has been providing marine heatwave briefings on the 2024-25 WA marine heatwave event.
