Western Australia is celebrating Sustainable Seafood Week by highlighting its 11 MSC-certified fisheries, which reflect the State’s commitment to world-leading science and sustainable fishery management. Supported by the Cook Government and local industry, WA was home to the first-ever fishery globally to receive MSC certification—the West Coast Rock Lobster Fishery. Other certified products include prawns, abalone, octopus, and scallops. The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development continues to support these efforts through rigorous stock assessments, ensuring WA remains a global leader in sustainable seafood.
