Future proofing the salmon industry means building resilience into how we plan, operate and invest as an industry – not simply responding when individual climate events occur.

The Tasmanian Industry will continue to rely on science, waterway modelling and forecasting, real-time environmental data and long term environmental programs to anticipate changes in the environments in which we operate to adapt production and infrastructure accordingly.

Many of these changes have already been implemented and continue to evolve, including – changing how sites are used, moving to higher energy waters, using technology, selective breeding programs, seasonal diet formulations etc.

Technology such as aeration, improved monitoring and more efficient energy systems will be increasingly important, but so too will be diversification and adaptive management across sites.

It is not just warmer summers that the industry has adapted to it is also cooler winters and prolonged seasons which all play a role in any farming operation.
